So today I made my weekly visit to the local casino. I was able to get my position at SL1. I toss my first throw for a 5-2 win. The dice go to the center of the table and the boxman tells me that my arm can not extend to the front of the stickman. I said I apologize but I'm not sure what you mean. So he explains to me that my arm during my release can not extend in front of the stickman and can't pass over the imagery line that divides the table in two. Can anyone tell me if that is true? After this happened I continued to roll and ended up making the all small. I did not place a bet on this but everyone to my left did and they were happy. My GF tells me later that after the boxman corrected me about my arm extending so far he called over one of the pit bosses and they were watching me grip the dice. They then called over another pit boss and again they watched my grip. I did not notice any of this and just continued to throw. It ended up being a bad day at the casino as I took a loss, but it wasn't because of the boxman. I didn't realize that my first bet did not have a dealers tip. So I started tipping, which I always do and then there were no more issues. So just curious if this is really a rule or did I just encounter some special treatment???

It is a rule that some casinos enforce. It is not done consistently by all casinos. In fact it is not even enforced consistently among all box people even in casinos that enforce the rule.

The rule exists because the stickman is supposed to watch the dice in flight so he can not watch the prop bets in front of him once the dice are tossed. Some players have been able to grab chips from the prop area after tossing the dice.

The rule is meant to prevent that.

They were not singling you out.

This has happened to many of us over the years. As Skinny said it is (to our knowledge) an individual casino rule if they choose to enforce it. Like all casino rules some are enforced with great zeal at some casinos or only a few box men or pit bosses. Other places don't seem to care. Some pit idiots become crazy and begin to yell and scream--for sure it is time to leave and come back for a different shift or leave the casino.

Let's take another rule---hitting the back wall. This is pretty much a hard and fast casino rule. But over the years Rose and Doc have found that some casinos, box men and / or pit bosses enforce the rule and others don't care at all.

So any time you are told you can't do something (such as crossing over the middle of the table) or must do something (such as hitting the back wall or setting the dice quicker), apologize and say you are sorry. As to crossing over the middle of the table simply take a half step away from the stick man or in hitting the back wall make sure you hit the back wall as taught in class.

If all else fails and you continue to get heat take down your odds and/or place bets and either 1) pass the dice and leave the table or 2) sling the dice down the table with a couple of base come bets still on the table until you 7 out and then leave the table--who knows you might even hit one or more of your base bets and then leave the table.

Just a few idle thoughts.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I had not heard of this rule so I was a bit surprised. I go to this casino once a week and this was the first time I ran across this boxman. I felt I was very polite with him and said sorry I didn't realize that rule. I did step left a little bit and I think that satisfied him. After the incident me, the dealer and him started joking about other things while I was still at the table. So I don't think he was trying to single me out, however I do go to this casino once a week and it is the first time I have seen him there. Oh well I will practice throwing from just a little further left. Again thank you all for the responses and the help.

Doc and Rose can't wait to see you guys again. I am hoping to run into y'all one day before another seminar but if it has to be a seminar then that will work. I still want my picture with you two.

I was told by the box Lady in the CT casino. At some tables and casinos where no one is tipping, putting "Dealers are on the line, consistently" They tend to let you be, and sometimes the stickman will even steps back for me. If I am not sure about the table I tend to scoot closer to SL2 and lean in deeper.
