I hit four Northern Indiana Casinos a few days ago. I had chips for the one in Hammond that I found in my drawer from 2003. This place was bought out a few years ago but the name is the same. They refused to cash the old chips. Same building. Same name. Same name on the chips with the same location on them. I couldn't believe it. I asked for the manager. She came out with a snotty attitude and said move aside and wait here. Nobody came. I asked for someone from upstairs. After 15 minutes and a fury building inside me I left. They bought the corporation and that means they bought all the assets and liabilities. All they ended up saying was "sorry, we don't use those kinds of chips anymore". They couldn't of cared less. That means don't walk out with chips in your pocket. Cash every one so you don't end up carrying them home worthless someday. I was thinking of calling the gaming commission for Indiana, the BBB, RipOff Report and the Attorney General about it. The problem is I like this casino. I don't want to be refused entry, you know?? Any advice??? :shock:

This is not unusual. Owner change usually brings chip changes. They have to post a notice about the expiry of the chips for a certain number of days before they are allowed to no longer accept the old ones, as specified by the gaming commission.

Those who miss the notice are just screwed.

Good advice about not holding casino chips for any length of time.

You may want to find a collector or just frame them for better luck . Sell at yard sale . Make table out of them or give them away at casino night . They are good for practice .Put 4 together to make coaster for drinks . Drill hole in them to hold keys for back gate or car . Put your phone number on them and give them to the babes at the crap table .
Any good ideas come up yet ? If not I am sure there will be more coming.

I say suck it up and chalk it up as a learned experience. I hope those weren't big chips that you never cashed. If you didn't it cash it then, you must not have needed the money much, or it was chump change. Either way, just play and win more chips. It sucks losing money needlessly like that, but that's the way life goes sometimes. SOmetimes old casino chips get sold, or given away when they're no longer in use. I've played in home poker games, and they used old casino chips. I have no idea of the legality of that, other than understanding they dont' use the old chips no more. you'll be fine.

Interesting Thread. My results have been a little more positive. I was playing in a casino in a very isolated casino in southern Illinois where Superman is located--I was attending a wedding--when Alligator Rose and I returned home she had a 25 chip from that little casino boat. Three years later a niece in the same area was getting married and we took the chip back with us. As we sat down at a $10 table we exchanged the chip for five $5 chips. Two hands of BJ and it was gone. Kinda of funny when you thank about it--held the chip for 3 years and it was gone in less than a minute.

My sister has a $1 chip from the old Mint in downtown Vegas. For those not familiar with the mint it was located next to the old Horseshoe (now Binions). When the Mint closed Horseshoe took it over and expanded into that area. About 6 months ago I went on a Casino Collectors Web page and it is worth between $7 and $10 depending on condition.

I have a $5 chip from the old Lake Tahoe Caesar's casino. It is now the Mont Blanc or some such name as I haven't been there in a couple of years so not sure of the new name. It is worthless at this time but will hold on to it for a while. The beauriful Alligator Rose will not let me put my phone number on the chip to give to a cure young thing at the craps table.
